How I'd build my public speaking career from ZERO in 7 steps
...if I could start over from scratch.
Hey Greenblasters! Question for ya:
Have you seen those videos on YouTube recently that say:
“How I’d _____ If I Had To Start Over”

Obviously, there’s a trend here
Well, I wanna do one.
But in my newsletter, not YouTube.
And for all you guys who read this newsletter to help you kickstart and/or jumpstart your paid speaking career.

What people think being a paid speaker is like. Yes, but also no.
So:
Here’s the first 7 things I’d do to start getting paid to speak:
Write out my 3-Act Speaker Story
Choose a corporate audience
Research their problems
Create a Signature Workshop
Pitch it on LinkedIn
Collect everything from the first workshop
Leverage that for more gigs
Sound too easy? Of course it does. It’s a list.

When someone says “Just win” as business advice.
Let’s break it down:
1. Write out my 3-Act Speaker Story
I've written about this a bunch. Sometimes I call it “Founder Story”, but it’s the same thing.
The point of this is:
Your story = your purpose.
If you don’t have a clear idea of:
where you came from,
how that shaped you,
& why you do what you do
You’ll never create the type of “personal brand” - yes, I said it - that event planners look for in speakers.

How most people react when they hear the term “personal brand”
As I like to say - and will probably be the title of my next book:
STORY FIRST.
2. Choose a corporate audience
Why corporate?
Why not schools, nonprofits, conferences, or associations?
Because corporations have the money. Simple.
And they have budgets for training. If you can help them solve a specific problem for them, they’ll pay you to come in and talk about it.
So start with corporate, and make sure the audience are people you can help, based on your STORY.
You know it’s serious business when the wallpaper says “CHINA”
3. Research their problems
This is where life and work experience come in handy:
Have you worked in corporate before? Have you done any 1:1 coaching or consulting for corporate people? Do you know lots of people in a specific job title, department or industry?
Use this knowledge as a starting off point, and set up Zoom calls with 10 people in this “niche”. Use Perplexity to research the rest.
You’re looking for KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) you can improve, like:
customer retention
project lead time
employee engagement
or the grandaddy: REVENUE/PROFIT

The person responsible for bringing you in wants a workshop that addresses whatever KPIs they’ve been tasked to improve.
4. Create a Signature Workshop
So why a workshop instead a keynote?

My signature workshop The Powerful Pitch for Remax in France.
Well, I’ve already told you that.
(TL;DR: It’s easier to get the gig when you’re starting out.)
And HOW to create this so-called “Signature Workshop?”
Here’s the guide:
|
It’s all in there, lemme know if you have any questions.
…
You know what, I think that’s enough for today, don’t you?
I feel like we’re all tired.

Plus, I have no idea if you guys want to read about this.
SO, I’ll do part 2 where I cover:
Pitch your workshop on LinkedIn
Collect everything from the first workshop
Leverage that for more gigs
if I get enough “YES!” replies to this email.

That’s it for this week!
Greenblast… out 🚀
