How to make more money as a business owner.

The 4 benefits of SPEAKING as an additional revenue stream

Hey Greeenblasters!

Not sure about you, but everyone I talk to is wants to make more money.

Which makes sense. Living costs are rising quickly, wages are not (same old story). But with inflation, and a general sense of the impending apocalypse, it feels even worse.

And in case you didn’t know, I have a second baby on the way, due in 2 months, which has me feeling like:

I’m happy. And terrified.

So, because I keep hearing “I’m looking for some additional income”, I thought I’d share:

The best way for solo biz owners to make more money

“Best” is maybe a stretch. I mean, there’s OnlyFans. But in my opinion, this the most reliable way to:

  • get more income

  • generate leads for your business

  • build your personal brand

  • and gain an inordinate amount of self-confidence, despite still feeling like an irresponsible manchild who needs to go to the gym more

I’m talking, of course, about professional SPEAKING.

And more specifically:

Doing WORKSHOPS for corporate events, onstage or online, to help the audience learn something transformational, for which they’ll pay you thousands, and eventually 10’s of thousands.

My workshop for Remax Euro Con in France before my first daughter was born. I was so young then 🥲

If you’ve been reading this newsletter for a while, you may have guessed that.

But let’s break down why getting into professional speaking, specifically corporate workshops, is the best extra income stream for coaches, consultants, and solopreneurs.

Let’s look at 4 main benefits:

Benefit 1: More money now

If you are any good at what you do, and you have experience helping businesspeople do their jobs better, you can charge $2500 right now for a 60-90 minute workshop.

Many corporate buyers have a discretionary budget of up to $5K, that they can put on a company credit card without approval need from higher up.

“25 hundo?? No problem!”

If they like you, and what you speak about, it’s a pretty easy decision to say yes to $2.5K especially cause it's lower than what most professional speakers charge.

You just have to know how to find and approach these “corporate buyers” (more on that later).

Benefit 2: More money LATER (i.e. leads)

More clients = more money (we all know that).

BUT, did you know:

The more time people “spend” with you, the more likely they are to buy from you?

(Read more about the 7-11-4 rule here).

And 90 minutes of uninterrupted teaching and interacting with you in a workshop is pretty much the best sales pitch for your services ever.

So:

More workshops = more clients = more money.

Benefit 3: LOTS more money but MUCH later

You’ve heard of the term “personal brand.”

It’s what allows Kim Kardashian to qualify as a venture capitalist, Jake Paul as a professional boxer, and Donald Trump as the leader of the free world.

As much as personal brands are used for evil, it’s one of the best ways to:

  • charge more for your services

  • win more clients

  • get influencer-type brand deals

  • and get inbound requests for all sorts of opportunities

Public speaking is an excellent PBB (personal brand builder; I like acronymizing phrases for no reason).

A person on a stage is considered a leader and an expert (whether or not that’s actually true).

Get some pics, some footage, and some testimonials, and you’ll start to build a personal brand that will compound over time.

(It takes a few years, so start now.)

As my buddy Finn McKenty would say: “Here’s a pic of me onstage so you think I’m important.”

And finally:

Benefit 4: The confidence

This one is probably the most important, and the hardest to measure.

I’ve now spoken to over 275 audiences, live and virtual.

I still have a ton of impostor syndrome, negative self-talk, and all the rest of it, but one thing I’m now sure of:

I’m somebody worth listening to.

I most certainly did NOT feel that way when I started doing this 8 years ago.

But since delivering my workshops again and again for appreciative audiences, I can honestly say that I feel confident in my ability to add value to the world, more so than my 1:1 coaching or online content creation has given me.

Nothing like people listening to you, to give you confidence that people will listen to you.

The bottom line

If you’re a biz owner, and you want to make more money:

  • now

  • later

  • & much more, much later

AND you wanna build some real confidence in what you bring to the world:

Create and start selling your workshop, now.

P.S. It JUST so happens that I’m releasing a video course on this very topic (weird, eh? We were just talking about it!).

Stay tuned for more info regarding the course and early-bird pricing 🫡
