The importance of consistency for writers and speakers
Hey Greenblasters,
Today I had a horrible realization:
I have nothing to say to you this week.
“So why am I reading this email, Will, you stupid weirdo?”
Great question.
I wanted to write this newsletter today, to highlight this importance of “showing up.”
Even when you have nothing to say.
Even when you’re exhausted.
Even when you feel like your audience will roll their eyes at your pathetic attempts to spin your lack of inspiration into some kind of meta-communication lesson.
I made a commitment to myself:
“I will send out the Greenblast to whoever is on my list, every Thursday at 12:00 PM EST.”
I’ve missed a couple deadlines since starting, but my goal remains the same.
Now, if I half-ass every email just to hit my deadline, you’ll stop reading – as you should.
But, part of this commitment means sitting down to write even when I’m uninspired, and trying to provide something of interest and value to you, so that you don’t kick me out of your inbox. And maybe one day, we can work together.
Also, as I spoke about on a podcast earlier, the value of writing consistently cannot be overstated:
You sharpen your ideas
You clarify your thoughts
You become more confident
You understand your weak points
And the distance between what’s in your head and what the audience understands gets smaller and smaller
But ONLY with consistency. For speaking AND writing.
That’s my message for today.
I love you all ❤️
P.S. If you feel like you didn’t get the wisdom you needed from me today, here are 3 of my recent podcast appearances where I feel like I said some cool shit:
